1-Turns: Dashes / Static

Dashes

VTG: 1:1

Add a turn to a dash. Move the hand straight as the prop turns and pause halfway to check the center position.

start
in
halfway
end
in

The staff travels straight from south to north and changes thumb orientation.

A base dash has one thumb switch (in → out). With one turn it has two (in → in).

This repeated motion is called a linear extension. Focus on the antispin half to keep the hand path straight.

Static

Finally, look at a static turn starting with the thumb in.

start
in
halfway
end
out

The staff stays at east while its thumb reference changes from in to out.

Do this at any hand point, from either thumb orientation and in either rotation direction.

Compare the arrows for static turns and prospin turns:

Static: The prop stays at its starting position. The arrow forms a semicircle around it.

Shift: The prop ends at an adjacent position. The arrow forms a semicircle around the empty start position.
